Lectrosonics was founded in 1971 in New Mexico by Larry Fisher. The company began with the "Voice Projector" line of portable PA systems and later introduced its first wireless microphone system in 1975. Over the years, Lectrosonics has developed a strong reputation for its wireless microphone systems in film, television and live performances, receiving an Academy of Sciences and Engineering Award for its Digital Hybrid Wireless® technology. The company was acquired by the Freedman Group in May 2025.

Key Milestones in Lectrosonics History
1971: The company is incorporated in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and begins manufacturing portable PA systems.
1975: Lectrosonics introduces its first wireless microphone system, the "Freedomike".
1980s: The company finds success in the broadcast market with transmitters and receivers designed for electronic newsgathering and documentary production. The 1980s also saw a growing demand for wireless systems in film, according to Full Sail University. 1988: Lectrosonics moves to a larger building in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
1990s: The company develops the Modular Audio Processor (MAP) system for the installed audio market, notes ProSoundWeb.
2017: The company receives an Academy of Sciences and Engineering Award for its Digital Hybrid Wireless® technology.
2025: The Freedman Group, which owns brands such as RØDE, acquires Lectrosonics.
